Description of Issue

I just received Nucleus One today, wired to my netwok and my roon server picked it up, I was feeding it to my DAC shiit YGGDRASIL to my Amp. Every thing seemed wired correctly, however no sound was coming out of headphones . I restarted Roon and now the Nucleus one is no longer is being picked up .

Hello @Richard_Wolfington,

Thank you for reaching Roon support.

It sounds like a frustrating start with the Nucleus One. Let’s break this down methodically to get things running. First, could you clarify how your DAC (Schiit Yggdrasil) is connected to the Nucleus? Are you using a USB?

Also, try connecting the Nucleus to a TV or monitor via HDMI and share what appears on the screen. If you can take a picture of it, that might give us more insight into whether the system is booting correctly or if there’s an issue with its network visibility.

Connected via USB. I hooked up to TV and it booted fine, I visited the UI and everything looks ok. Roon server sees it again, I use the app on my phone to play and it plays, just nothing coming out of headphones. I also tried connecting direct to my amp and server and app still see it and looks like it is playing, still nothing out of headphones. I tried a different set of headphones just in case that was the issue to no avail. Note, when plug in to my DAC, I can tell there is a connection due to the YGGDRASIL making the noise and the lights coming on. Is there possibly a setting in the device settings I am missing?

So, now server is not picking up the one again. When I look at Roon, it acts like its trying to enable the one. It flashes up, then its gone . To verify there were no issues with my DAC, I connected my computer back to my DAC and everything works fine, music is playing through headphones . Its definitely an issue with the the One.

It is really odd, the One while connected to my DAC flashes off and on quickly on the server, like it finds it then it gon. This is what the One does when connected to my DAC when not, the server picks it up fine. It only does it when connected to my DAC. The DAC is fine while connected to my laptop. Every now and then, it does connect while connected to my DAC, but still no audio. Also, I connected the One direct to my amp, it connected fine to the served, but no audio . I think the unit is bad .

IIRC, RoonOS don’t have the required drivers for Schiit Yggdrasil for a direct USB connection. Maybe look at installing Roon bridge on a Windows machine of a Mac.

I remember a user running Roon Rock on a NUC had the similar issues a year or so ago.

Found the thread, 2022 :man_facepalming:

But there could be another issue here also.

The Nucleus One sends a stream to whatever device is connected, and this should be your Roon Server if set up correctly.

Since you say, …

… I wonder if you are still running your old Roon server, since the One is a Roon Server.

Please go to Roon → Settings → General, and share a screenshot. It should look similar to this.

You should see the Nucleus One listed under Roon server.

Yes, the issue was a boutique cable. The Yggdrasil is Roon Tested, so should work out-of-the-box with any Nucleus or Linux-based streamer.

But I read this

There was more, but I like Schiit and that thread was stuck in my brain.

Hello @Richard_Wolfington,

Thank you for the update.

I’ve enabled diagnostics mode for your account, but for some reason, it’s not reaching our servers—even after I attempted to re-enable it. I also ran a quick test from my end and was able to successfully submit a similar report, so it seems something else is preventing the data from being transmitted.

Could you please confirm whether your Nucleus One is successfully activated as the Roon Server, and that you are using it for playback?

If so, we can move forward by collecting the logs manually. Please follow the instructions outlined here to locate your logs and upload them to our Logs Uploader Service.

Once uploaded, let us know so we can take a closer look. Thanks!

Can you try again, its on now .

Hi @Richard_Wolfington,

Strangely we’re still not seeing your Nucleus device. We only see your Windows 10 server. Can you please use the instruction @vadim provided for you to send the logs over to us?

Logs have been uploaded .

Hello @Richard_Wolfington,

Thank you for your message.

To help resolve the issue, we recommend reinstalling the operating system from the Nucleus Web Administration Interface. This process will reinstall the latest version of RoonOS and RoonServer, even if your system is already up to date. Please note that reinstalling the software will not affect your settings or your Roon database.

To proceed:

 1. Open the Nucleus Web UI by following the steps in this guide: Connecting to the Web Administration Interface
 2. In the Operating System section, click the Reinstall button.
Please allow a few minutes for the process to complete, depending on your internet connection. Let us know once you've completed this step or if you run into any issues.

Done. Still no audio.

Hi @Richard_Wolfington,

Did you check out @mjw’s post here?

Can you provide a screenshot of what is shown for the Roon Server under Roon settings → General? If it shows your Windows 10 machine there you can click “Disconnect” then you should have the option to connect the Nucleus One.

sorry, I thought I already did this . [moderated - email address removed]

Hi @Richard_Wolfington,

Thanks for sharing the screenshot! Everything looks ok to that end…a small side test (and my apologies if this has been glazed over) but are you able to stream audio from the system output of any of your remotes, like your Windows 10 or mobile device?

With that, does the same issue happen no matter the file resolution of the content you’re attempting to play? Does it happen with both local as well as streaming content?

Thank you!

Sorry, just seeing this. I have tried multiple formats and tried multiple outputs and nothing. I have also tried connecting the One directly to my amp and still nothing . When I switch back to the old server on my desktop, everything works . Then when I introduce the One back into the chain and switch to that server, nothing again.
