Nugs - am I missing something - where is the value?

Nugs isn’t niche because it features live music. It’s niche because it features such a small range of live music.

So there is no video player embedded in Roon to play music from Nugs and play the video??

No.

Ok any guess as to how many man hours it would have taken to add Nugs to Roon? I have no idea so lets hear your opinion please…..

I know your question isn’t directed at me, and I can’t offer a man hour figure.

However, gut feeling and educated guess suggests dev time started March/April time last year. A hiccup halted its release shortly after the teaser until its release this year.

No concrete proof (that I can share )

I was hoping for SF Jazz integration, which I subscribe, but without video, I’m not sure I’d enable it in Roon.

Nugs - tried it, found it lacking content, unsubscribed, disabled in Roon. I heard no howls, no one begged me to reenable, I moved on.

1 person doing the work or 20? Big difference….

100% agree

What? Did Spotify buy Whosampled?
Oh that really is a shame - that info in Roon was my biggest wish.

The main benefit of Nugs to me is being able to watch live concerts. I actually discovered some new artists while watching which was cool. Videos though are not available through Roon- so Nugs OK but through Roon? pointless. All the music from the concerts I watched so far have been on Qobuz anyway. So what is the advantage?

Imagine playing Roon on your stereo with a Roon 4k video of the concert playing on your tv as well.

Now that’s what i was expecting.

A full immersive experience.

Not only that, a lot of the videos are blu-ray rips. Sorry, not in this way.

Phew! The pushback is surprising. It’s a new toy to play with. I have already listened to a fantastic couple of concerts. Use it, dont use it. I doubt that Roon compromised other initiatives to get Nugs in. Its great to have more options in Roon. Nugs will soon realise their pricing model will cost them in the long term, they need to drop prices, if they really want to grow.

I trted that . Nugs website for video and Roon for the music. Synchronising was a lot of stop-start but I got it pretty close!

I think of myself as probably a typical Roon user – A 60’s something audiophile - I don’t know for sure, but I feel we make up a large portion of Roon’s users – By adding Nugs, perhaps part of the thought may be to get some younger blood over here? - Remember, as Roon folks here are getting introduced to Nugs, the same thing is happening over at Nugs –Nugs folks are getting introduced to Roon -

The real power of Nugs isn’t so much the ability to listen to a legacy show on demand, but rather to watch \ listen simulcasts of live concerts.

The reason why this works for Nugs is because of the genre they represent – Jam Bands for the most part, play different sets each night. For example, Lady Gaga probably puts on an amazing show – but at the same time, she probably doesn’t mix things up very much night after night. Billy Strings or Goose can play a weekend long run at a venue and perhaps not repeat a song – This makes eager fans want to come back to view the entire run, instead of just one show. This is how and why the Nugs model works for those bands - (This is not meant as a knock on Lady Gaga! She is amazing, and I’m only using her as an example, but I don’t think she would be a likely candidate for Nugs …..)

I was a fan of Grateful Dead- I attended many shows during the 70’s 80’s & 90’s – and I think to myself, if I could have sat on my couch and watched and listened to, in real time, entire East Coast tours for 25 bucks a month, I would have done it in a hot second – It’s easy to compare Tidal & Qobuzz to Nugs, but the reality of it is, they are very different types of services, that happen to have some overlap. Nugs is an amazing offering – but only if those bands are your thing. Hope this helps with the OP’s original question -

Hmmm, I took a look at Nugs website and saw no mention of Roon anywhere. How are Nugs users being introduced to Roon?

Maybe by a direct email? :man_shrugging:
