Description Of Issue

I’ve got a trial for a week and Roon rarely works. I have Windows 10 64bit version with 8gb RAM i5 6400t. I have 2 roon ready network players and Huawei p30 pro and Huawei mate 10 pro. Firewall disabled, enough space on the hard drive, everything restarted and my phones sometimes see my PC, sometimes wait loop, but the connection is rarely out of sync. I have about 1tb of music but that should not be that problem. What is the problem?

It’s not clear from your post exactly what your issue is. Is it your remotes on the Huawei devices are not connecting or can you not see the Bluesound or PS Audio dac from in Roon? Can you be more specific?

I see you have a fritzbox, there have been issues with these and Roon blocking discovery. I suggest you look here first if you have not already.

I often can not see my roon core on my phones, sometimes my phones see the Roon Core PC, but a connection is not possible( try to connect…). Except in rare cases, a connection is established, but after a certain time it breaks off. Practically unusable

As I mentioned this is likely a discovery issue with your network setup. On you router make sure you are enable multicast on the WiFi network. Check out the link I posted as it does have a section about Fritzboxes. Some routers are known to block multicast traffic. Also I would try removing the switch temporarily from the setup to see if it works direct to router as that is not a standard network switch and may be blocking some traffic.

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

Welcome to the forum. As @Simon_Arnold3 noted, sometimes network gear takes a bit of tweaking to pass multicast traffic properly, and Roon relies on multicast to establish a connection to the Core.

I would start off by bypassing the switch and having the Core connected to the router via Ethernet, as well as taking a look to see if you have “Software Packet Acceleration” turned on in your router settings (as this has caused issues in the past).

If you have performed both of these checks with no change, I would try to manually specify the Core IP address in your Android remotes. You can do this by pressing the “Help” button and then entering the Core IP address there.

Do let me know if the above information is helpful!

I could not solve the problem permanently. The system does not always work. An Intel Nuc 8i7BEH2 is roon compatible? Do I have the same problem with the router and switch with Intel Nuc products?

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

Yes, the NUC 8i7BEH2 is supported as per our ROCK Knowledge Base Article. When you mention that you could not solve this problem permanently, can you let me know what you tried and what worked vs what didn’t?

Did connecting via manual IP address allow you to connect? Which version of Android are you using on your Roon Remotes, is it Android 9 or Android 10? Is the firmware on the router up-to-date? Did bypassing the switch yield any results?

I decided to give roon a 2 chance. I bought a Nuc8i7beh2, Samsung Evo 970, 16Gb Corsair, Akasa X8. Can you please renew my free 14 days trial. I have Android 9 on both phones and of course I have also manually tried to enter the IP address. I have contacted Fritzbox Support and have enabled Multicast Option. Everything without success. The support said that I should try again and you look directly why it does not work. Unfortunately I do not have a roon free trial anymore. It would be helpful for me to try roon and I think it will work and I will buy the unlimited Roon.

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

I have private messaged you regarding the trial aspect. Can you please let me know the following information?

  1. Have you bypassed the switch and tried connecting the Core directly to the router? Was there any change in connecting this way?

  2. Are you using any kind of VPN application on your Android remotes or on your Core machine?

  3. If you are using any Antivirus applications on your Core, have you made sure to properly add Roon.exe and RAATServer.exe as exceptions to them? You can locate these executables in the Database Location/Application folder path. I would also make sure they have been added to Windows Defender by using these instructions.

It was not easy, but nuc is running. I had to format the internal hard drive on the Roon web interface and I need to save my saved files back, but I’m stuck. I can see my data with on my phone and Windows 10 PC on the Roon Web interface, but how do I get to the Roon OS server. I would like to fill up my hard drive with music. These things are not helpful. Windows defender is off.

Accessing Roon OS’s Data Directory
With ROCK running on your network, you can access Roon OS’s /Data directory like any other SMB share.

Windows - In Windows Explorer, type \ROCK
MacOS - In Finder, click Go, then Connect To Server. Then type smb://ROCK/ and connect as a Guest
In either case, you can also replace ROCK with the IP address of your Roon OS device.

These instructions assume you are using ROCK – if you are using Nucleus or another product based on Roon OS, consult your product documentation for the correct host name, or just use the device’s IP address.

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

Glad to hear that the NUC is up and running! I have moved your post back into the primary thread, let’s please keep the rest of the conversation here. To access the Roon storage folder, you can type \\ROCK\ into a Windows Explorer browser like so:

If this does not work, you can also specify it via the IP address like so (note: You can find the IP address in the Web UI):

Once you are at the data share, you will want to navigate to the Storage folder, and your HDD should be listed here and you can add content via drag and drop.

Does this explanation help? If you are still stuck, some screenshots of which step you’re stuck on would be appreciated, you can upload screenshots to this site by using these instructions.

I have my music on the hard drive. I have see picture the recommended tar file in codecs folder, Nuc restarts, other ffmpeg codecs copied in the folder but doesn’t work. It always shows codecs missing. Another question. Can i sort the favorite songs by date at Tidal? If so, where can I do that? Is it normal that the favorite radio stations are simply deleted? Maybe after a reboot, but it is annoying to always reinstall.

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

You will need to extract the ffmpeg file so there is just the main ffmpeg in the Codecs folder. I suggest using 7-zip to perform the extraction, at the end it should look something like this:

More info on this can be found in our Codecs Knowledge Base Article.

You can sort by Date Added in the Track Browser:

If you’d like to only see TIDAL content, you can use the Focus Feature:

No, this is not normal. Does the same behavior occur on multiple Roon Remotes? If you reinstall Roon and don’t preserve the database it would remove any items in your library including Radio Stations, I would double check to see if this happens on all remotes.

I have extracted the file, but only the ffmpeg file in the folder purely … It was not clear to me. Now it works.
I have roon app in android and in windows. Since you can not sort the songs by date. Where exactly can I do it? Which app, browser, how do I get there … And the most important thing is, if I do it, then it stays that way.

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

Glad this works.

You will need to navigate to the Track Browser, this can be accessed by going to the main menu and then clicking on Tracks. I can’t say for sure if all of the options are present on Android since this uses a different screen size, but they should be visible in your Windows Roon Remote.

You should be able to save a Bookmark (top right in the Tracks browser, next to search) for easy access. More information on Bookmarks can be found in this thread (How do you use Bookmarks?).

In the track browser you can only sort music on the hard disk by date. Qobuz is automatically sorted by date. My question relates to sorting the Tidal tracks by date. That does not work in the Android and in the Windows Roon app to my knowledge. Right?!

The Track Browser shows the content of your library, which consists of your local files plus the content that you have added to your library from your subscribed streaming services (e.g. TIDAL and/or Qobuz).

So you should be able to sort all your music by date, not just music on your local storage.

Everyone on my hard drive has a lot more stored songs than favorite Streaming Tidal and Qobuz tracks. It does not make sense to sort by date, especially if you probably save the data to disk at once. The result is track browser for Tidal and Qobuz completely useless. Bubble DS, Mconnect, Mcontrol, Tidal, Blusound, AVM, Linn, Naim… and all of my known apps can sort Tidal or Qobuz favorite songs by date. It is not a big deal. When will it be possible at Roon? At Tidal, if I choose an artist, I would like to see not just the albums, involved work… Inspired, also the most popular songs. Will it also be integrated into the Roon Android app or other Roon app? Will Amazon Streaming also be integrated in the Roon?

I’m not really sure what you are asking for here. If you are saying that you just want to be able to sort Qobuz and/or TIDAL tracks by date and filter out the local tracks, then you can do this in the Track Browser by using the Focus/Format selector, and save the Focus as a Bookmark for future use. See the Focus article in the KB

Hi @Krisztian_Soos,

As @Geoff_Coupe mentioned, you can use the filter feature to sort only TIDAL and Qobuz content in the track browser, the option is listed under “Format”. Once you select either TIDAL or Qobuz, the local library tracks should not be visible any longer in the browser.

These are all “Feature Requests” and the best place to make your voice heard would be on the feature request section of this site. There is also a very long thread regarding Amazon music integration which can be found here: High resolution audio from Amazon
