Roon Remote Greyed-Out Artwork and/or Hanging on Albums/Artist, Pages [Fix Released, Verifying]

Hi @benjamin - thanks for confirming this issue is now prioritized. I was concerned because my thread title have not been appended with [Roon Investigating] or [Ticket In], which I see other issues are appended like that when investigation starts.

Description of Issue

My Roon remote app on my Samsung S8 tablet has not been working properly for two or three months now.

After opening the app it will initially work fine but will quickly have problems - it wont open all my favorite artists and gets stuck on Roon egg timer when i click on one. Closing and opening the app sorts it out but only for a very brief spell. I more or less need to close and open the app for each use.

All software fully updated.

I’ve tried re-installing Roon remote app and Roon is re-booted most days.

Any help welcome.

@benjamin One month has passed since I opened this ticket. If I was a monthly subscriber, I would have requested a refund. What is taking so long?

Hi,
I apologize in advance if my question has already been answered somewhere. But I’m totally lost in those threads. When controlling the Roon app via iPhone 13 ProMax (latest iOS) and iPad Pro (latest iOS), if the devices go into “stand-up” mode, the Roon Remonte app freezes. I have to completely turn it off on the devices and then restart it for it to work. Subsequently, after some time, a few minutes, the freezing will be repeated. Please take into account that I am not an IT “maniac” and I am just a user.
Can you please advise me where the problem may be and especially how to eliminate it?
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hi @Vladislav_Dobrev,

Please note there is a fix already in testing over in the Early Access category. If you’re eager to restore connectivity, you can follow these steps to move your RoonServer and Remotes to early access.

Otherwise, rest assured the team is working on the issue and will release a fix in the next upcoming release. Thank you!

Hi @Steve_Wilcox,
Thank you for your patience while we worked through the queue. To be better able to help you please fill out the whole form, especially the network setup details (i.e. the make and model of your network devices and how they are connected).

Hello
does the fix is also for Android version?
I face same issue here:

@benjamin I prefer to wait the production release.

I just noticed this thread, and you have my sympathy! I’ve experienced the same problem for about the same amount of time. Your first screenshots look like what I see many times per day. Closing the remote and restarting allows me to give it another try.

My setup is different, with ROCK on NUC8i7 and remote on an Samsung android tablet. I might try the early access thing, while following your progress.

@benjamin I am testing release 2.0.26 (build 1357) and will update on results. I’ve had it for a couple of hours, and so far so good. Will report back in 3-4 days to confirm problem is solved.

I noticed its immedialty quicker at connecting to the core. Not had long enough to see if it exibits the same behaviour of loosing connection but UI still working.

Sorry @support this has not fixed the disconnection issue for me. Still looses connection and does not restablish when left for a while. So no change at all in 2.0.026

@benjamin @support - the issue is not fixed in this 2.0.26 release.

Reproduced the issue at 22:41 EET on 14-Dec-2023.

I had my hopes very high… but in reality, I did not see a confirmation by support that they have reproduced this specific issue.
Bottom line - more than a month has passed, and the issue is still there.

@benjamin Support
I had a short hickup as well at around 21h35 CET

Luckily, my remote (iPad) recovered after tapping a few times on the album cover/track title at the bottom left.

I have uploaded my logfiles after the installation of the new release 2.0.26, using the Roon Log Loader.

And to be complete, here are my sustem details once more:

P.S. Most probably nothing unexpected but, looking at the logfiles, I find it very strange that Raatserver is trying to connect to my Windows laptop, whilst Roon is not active on that laptop (I cannot even find a trace from either RoonServer or RoonClient running)

What’s this?

See help.roonlabs.com - troubleshooting - logs

Link just takes me a generic support page. Don’t see it at all no a troubleshooting section.

This probably:

I found it by just searching. I’ll use it next time it happens and get logs from the iPhone.

Hi @Simon_Arnold3, @Dirk_De_Taey,

We will notify development and pass along these reports. Thank you, and we’re sorry to hear that you’re seeing ongoing problems.

Without looking at anything specific, this sounds like normal behavior; RAATServer has retained the IP address of the Windows Remote and is checking for available Zones. Roon isn’t open, so RAATServer isn’t reaching anything.

Hi @Vladislav_Dobrev,

We’re sorry you’re seeing continued symptoms and thank you for the report.

Your frequent posting requires a gentle reminder, though: these threads function to convey specific technical details to our engineering team. Posting multiple times per day to share your opinions or perceptions is welcome (within reason and the guidelines of this Community), but please do it in Feedback.

Even when your feedback is warranted, this is not the correct place - you’re making it very difficult for us to parse these threads for the information we need.

Please remember that you declined to join Early Access where we tested the fix. You did, however, post in Early Access to state that you were no longer seeing symptoms. Is this an intermittent issue for you?

If you wish to be more actively involved in the process of identifying and reproducing issues in Roon, please join Early Access.

In this case, engineering reproduced and fixed a problem retaining correct network credentials for Remotes under certain conditions with RoonServer. Many users have reported reduced connectivity symptoms with Remotes - some are seeing ongoing problems.

There are likely other underlying causes, so we will continue to investigate.
