Roon via Fritz Box Wifi

For all of those who are trying to stream via Wifi using a Fritzbox: the following tip made my day:

The FRITZ OS 7 update includes a feature called “Software Packet Acceleration” that can cause
issues with remote connectivity. We recommend disabling this setting from the FRITZ GUI.

I tried to stream with Roon from my PC to my Android devices via WiFi (Fritzbox 7590 with OS 7.50). Slow loading of audio, frequent dropouts in spite of good Wifi speed. Disabling the “Paketbeschleunigung” did the trick. It’s impossible to find, see here:

It’s really in the Fritzbox support section at the bottom as shown on the page.

With Paketbeschleunigung disabled streaming works without problems.

Funny…I just checked, and it was enabled. I can stream to my wireless endpoints without problems, though. I’ll try and switch it off for a few days and see if I notice any changes in my home network.

It’s weird because different Fritzbox models seem to have different (or differently worded) settings and different effects. I have a 6690 Cable and the options look like this:

The Layer 2 acceleration was off by default, I turned it on a long time ago to check if it is causing issues - it doesn’t. And with hardware acceleration off, performance is killed for wifi and internet uplink.
