· For the last while Roon via Rock has become unusable. Recently, it has been constantly crashing. Now I can’t even log in. I have been frequently doing a push button restart on the device. That worked for a while but no longer. I can [see] the Rock on my network. Things started getting bad on around Feb 14. I bought a new streamer thinking that could be the problem but it wasn’t. I have Bell Canada as my ISP with 3 gig service and an orbi 850 set as access point to the bell hub.
From hdmi, I see Roon OS2.1 (build 271), its serial # and the web UI address. I just tried reinstalling the OS and doing a hard reset on the Orbi system as well. I did the hard reset on the Orbi as it said the backhaul status was poor. Upon reinstall it is “good”. We did get a new router from our isp recently and I am not sure if that is contributing. I’ll advise if crashing of Roon continues.
After resetting as per the above I cannot log into Roon or the Rock IP address. It has also disappeared from my list of attached devices on my network. What should I do?
Given your reference to this potentially being a failed drive I tried replacing the m.2 drive with another flashed imagine of ROCK after updating the NUC’s bios. That didn’t work, although Roon reloaded and I restored my archive. I’ll try the above too.
In terms of what I see, most recently, I lose the Roon connection, see a circle closing and my Eversolo T8 defaults back to Tidal (not Roon). Instead of the actual local ip address 192.168 … I see Roon pointing to http://100.108.60.18/, which, to my understanding, is not on my network.
In addition to the closing circle, I have also had the album image flash/flicker between the album art and the circle. Sometimes I can see a networking error. That said, it’s been working for a bit.
Based on the information in the last posts, i tend to claim you have a networking issue rather than a failed hard drive.
Please tell what hardware your ROCK runs on?
And please be patient, the Roon team will address this case early in the coming week (they don’t work weekends). They will be able to review logs and be more specific about what you should look into.
This said, the Roon Server (your ROCK) needs to be on the same network (subnet) as your endpoints and remote. They all should have an IP address in your range 192.168.NNN.X.
See if the Orbi mesh have gone into “Route mode” or whatever it might be called?
ROCK and endpoints are all on the same subnet. I have repeatedly checked the router and it displays being in AP mode, not router. The model of NUC is BOXNUC8i3BEK1. I recall it being on Roon’s hardware when I got it.
The star in the audio chain display has shown processing speed at 11 x. So the CPU seems adequate.
Roon has worked fine for several years. Then in the last few months it has been losing network connectivity.
Thanks for writing in and for sharing all the details of your issue so far!
If you could, please bring your Roon Server via ROCK back online and attempt to connect to our upstream servers. From there, we’ll attempt to enable diagnostic mode to take a closer look at what might be going on.
Let us know when you’re able to do this, thank you!
I have reconnected it (again via ethernet to the Orbi). Incidentally, the NUC was powered up when you could not see it.
The following describes me setting it up today. Initially, when unsuccessfully trying to make it viewable via wifi, with a monitor plugged into the NUC, I noticed that the NUC screen said “Searching for network address. If this persists, please check your network connection.” That said, during this period of seeming wifi address non-connectivity, the device was connected such that I could still access the //ROCK/ folder via Windows via the LAN network.
I was however able to eventually view the ROCK at a 192.168 address by push-button restarting the NUC one or more times.
I also did a copilot search for people with Bell Canada as ISP, an Orbi 850 and problems with Roon. One is me from 2023 (which I had forgotten). I’m wondering if ISP default settings and Roon are conflicting. Here are links to those posts in case you keep records of past fixes:
Looking at my ISP router, I can see multiple listings of this wifi error:
“A device <[MAC address]> failed to connect to SSID [Bell router name] because it provided incorrect login information.” And this system warning: “ppp0:Request for a new authenticated connection”. They seem to be from when I tried to use Roon/ reinstalled the Rock OS on a new m.2.
Hi, I wanted to let you know that my rock/nuc is no longer visible on my network. From a browser, I get a message saying that this site is currently unreachable. I logged onto the network feature of Windows, and a message appeared saying that Windows firewall has blocked some features of room appliance on all public and private networks.
