Good ole’ Amazon delivery today… Hudson Hifi acrylic mat and gel stylus cleaner.

To my amazement, the acrylic mat is no joke. Bass and lower midrange has tightened up and become cleaner and more defined. Bass also seems to reach a little deeper. Everything else from what I can tell has remained the same with the exception of a bit more open sound stage. All in all, a nice simple upgrade for only 24 bucks, ordered last night and arrived about 2 hours ago.

Also, pretty sure I’ve pretty much eliminated that stinkin’ IGD. Part of it was the cartridge alignment (resorted back to the Technics alignment tool that came with this TT back in '78), and the other part was from some of these old LPs. It’s just the way some of them are, or how they’ve been played in years past with mis-aligned carts from the previous owners. My personal collection of LP’s from my father, brothers and myself are all perfectly fine… IGD free.

Just in case some of the non “analog kids” do not get this.
IGD equals inner groove distortion.
Fair to say Neil Young suffers from OGD, MGD and IGD.

I was tempted to move all of these latest posts to a new thread about Placebo effect.
But that would likely end up being worse than some of the threads recently closed for pointless and endless back and forth.
So let’s just leave it where it is now please.
It’s one of those areas where nobody will win or agree so nuff said.

Thread has been cleansed.

Thank you for your patience and understanding

Good decision Ace.

Changed up my speakers, Dali Helions. I heard these years ago and they left such an impression on me over most speakers I have heard even to this date and they still give me goosebumps after finally owning them .

I’ve never been a fan of the Dali look. Until I saw these. Very nice.

definitely pieces of hifi artwork, gorgeous cabinet work and finish.
Hope they sound half as good as they look!
Enjoy.

Beauties. Love my Dali Helicons as well. Don’t have room for the towers but i have had the opportunity to hear them.

I’ve had the same memories of the Helicon speakers sound. So I bought the Epicon 8’s and couldn’t be happier. Enjoy.

I had the Epicon 2s (the standmounts) and I often think about getting them again…I miss the sound too. Plays all genre well.

They sound as good as they look for sure, in fact they have a sound signature very similar to my Vandersteen 3a Signature’s but with more detail on top and the very reason I love them.

So, I’ve retired the Linn HT system from our music room, and gone two channel and mostly analogue, based on kit I’ve bought over multiple decades. I bought my Spendor BC1s new in 1977 and finally got around to restoring the cabinets and replacing the cat-molested grille cloths - both bass units were replaced over the years by Spendor, so in good nick otherwise. The EC Audio Finestra three-box preamp is a Tom Evans design I bought in the early 90s - that’s been cleaned up and I repolished the acrylic case. Power amp is a recapped Mark Levinson 331, bought not least because I’ve always wanted one and the turntable I bought and restored recently is another I’ve wanted since I was knee-high to a grasshopper - a Michell/Transcriptors Hydraulic Reference with fluid arm. It’s currently fitted with an AT110E cartridge through a Musical Fidelity phono stage. In a nod to the current millennium, I’ve added a Pi-based Roon endpoint driving a Meridian Explorer 2 MQA DAC into the Finestra. There’s also an Apple TV for social duties, fed into the preamp through an HDMI audio splitter. Got it put together and fired up for the first time last week and, for a mongrel system, I’m seriously impressed by the sound, from all sources. Whilst it doesn’t compare to my main Martin Logan-based system, the Spendors seem to love the ML amp, which seems to keep their notoriously loose bass well under control, and the sound is musical and clear, with a really strong, neutral midrange, especially on vocals (another trad Spendor strength).

Love that acrylic table over the ML, really highlights it’s solidity and sheer size and authority.
The turntable is stunning!

A labor of love! I am certain it sounds better to you from all the effort you have put into this rig.

Nicely done!

It’s actually my mother’s glass coffee table - she wanted rid of it, as she was falling over it rather too often, and none of my hifi racks are designed for the depth of the turntable, so purely opportunistic rather than planned! Agreed though - I very much like the look of it over the big ML

Ah, I assumed it was acrylic due to the curved ends.
That’s then also a work of glass art.
Overall I really like the complete look and the equipment is top notch.
Enjoy!

Helicon 400 Mk.2 correct?

They’re on my shortlist radar. Beauties!
