Who has a turntable in their setup?

Ha! “Jazz isn’t dead, it just smells funny!” …as does my Pink Floyd albums!

Now thats a pretty advanced device! With one of the longest product monikers ever printed on a device!

Sounds more like a shuttle for going into space, discovery one , over. :rocket:

I’m in the market for a cleaner, how much better would this be from a ProJect Spin Clean?

Any motorized cleaner is miles better than stuff like the Spin Clean.

Whether you want a rinse-and-vacuum one like the OkkiNokki or an ultrasonic one is a matter of taste and preference. Personally, I find the vacuum ones way too much hassle and dripping, so I use the HumminGuru. (As does @Mikael_Ollars but he likes the Okki for initial deep cleaning if very dirty, I think).

I’ll check that HumminGuru out, thanks!

A lot of the ultrasonic cleaners use the same internals.

Sure, because they are standard ultrasonic emitters, motors, etc., but handling differs. And the build and how you work it differs quite a lot between models. (And price)

Do you also use stylus cleaners? I see HumminGuru has one on their site, S-Duo.

It’s certainly recommended. The S-Duo seems cool and comes with a gauge, too. If I had nothing, I might be going with this now, ultrasonic cleaning with just water seems like made for styluses.

In the past I used a vibrating brush cleaner (similar to the Flux-Hifi Sonic), which is ok-ish too (but my guess would be not as good as ultrasonic). Currently I use a DS Audio ST-50 gel pad (despite people’s paranoia about residue):

What’s nice about the gel pad is that it’s a large area and I am less scared of breaking my expensive MC cart. It seems to clean very well (at least as far as I can see with my magnifying glass), at least when records are clean and there’s not much dirt on the stylus.

I like to follow the same regime as @ mikael_ollaers too, and have a HumminGuru for the ‘last micron’ultra sonic task when needed.

The DiscoveryOne uses a suction arm that travels from the centre of the disk outwards and stops automatically when it reaches the run in groove. The machine is very quiet, due to the suction nozzle being very small and the vacuum pump being very quiet (You can actually still listen to music while you clean, without having to resort to headphones!).

The tech on the DiscoveryOne is a combo of new and old. If anyone remembers the original Austin/Morris Mini from the 1960’s, you may recognise the manual cleaning fluid pump on the DiscoveryOne, which is the same pump that was used on the original Mini! For the windscreen washer system :slightly_smiling_face:

I use Lyra SPT pretty regularly, but more frequently the short haired Ortofon style brush. The latter one occasionally moisted with some Clearaudio stylus cleaner (IPA based).

I also have a piezoelectric cleaner with a pad, mine"s old and branded Goldring.

I do like the simple maneouvre of slicing upp some Magic Eraser in 2-3mm sheets, putting them on the platter (non rotating) and simply drop and lift the stylus onto these a few times.

It lasts ages :grinning:
Me too, again.

As well as this.

Music Hall MMF-1.5. I have finally broken down and decided to add something to play my 20 or so albums. I do wish after all these years they had figured out a way for the dusk covers to not get so scratched up.

Just received my rebuilt SoundSmith Zephyr mk3 cartridge back from SoundSmith.
Owning a SS cart is a hard to beat deal as they will rebuild your cart for approximately 20% of new purchase price…over and over again. This is now it’s third rebuild ( yes I do like it’s signature…lol) and this time I went for a ML stylus.
$299 plus tax and shipping for essentially a new cartridge that would be around $1600 to buy new .

They have!

Does anyone have experience with Vertere Acoustics turntables? I’m considering the DG-1S.

Yes, they are very nice. The DG-1 strikes above it’s paygrade, imo.
I have acouple of friends who runs Vertere spinners, two MG-1 and one RG-1 fully specced with isolation. They all sound very nice in their respective brackets.

I have heard the whole range and also at a few shows and can’t say I was overly impressed to be honest.
I tried their cartridges and as a consequence heard the T/t’s , I was not tempted by the cart at all and went with the umami red which out classed any of their offerings. All imo. So now you have polar opposite opinions from myself and @Mikael_Ollars ,you just need to listen for your self tbh.
It may just be the cartridge that put me off as I have not heard them with anything other than their own vertere cartridges though.

I’m quite happy with what I have now (Technics SL1210G), but the new Denon DP-3000NE sure looks like a bargain.
