Roon Nucleus+
Windows 11; Dell XPS8950 desktop computer 64 bit 32 GB RAM
This is the second time that Windows 11 File Explorer has quit recognizing music servers on my ethernet connected home network. I understand from the internet that I am not the only one encountering this vexing problem which Microsoft does not seem able to fix. I have tried all kinds of advice from the internet to no avail. I have rebooted my router & computer & plugged in a different ethernet cable but that has not worked to solve the problem. I have had 2 computer geeks try to solve the problem to no avail. Has anyone in the community also experienced this problem & do they have any advice as to how to solve it?
I’ve had this issue before with Windows 10. Sometimes typing the IP address of the server in the address bar would bring it up. Other times it would randomly reappear.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a reliable answer to make it reappear.
However, once it appeared, I was able to Pin it to Quick Access. Once I did that, it never disappeared from Quick Access.

Check if the IP a address (Nucleus) is still the same - you can use “Advanced IP scanner” or look it up in your router. If you than type it in the bar it should work under WIN 11.
When it works, assign a fix IP address to the Nucleus in the router.
I just set up a new Windows 11 PC this evening and cannot access the drives/folders on my Salkstream III streamer (I could with my old Windows 10 computer). I can’t seem to figure out how to fix this.
I took a look at the above link, but don’t understand how to do any of that on my Salkstream.
Changes that Microsoft has made to security means that it is no longer possible to access Nucleus or ROCK folders. Then the Group Policy Editor of Windows can be used to work around this.
Windows File Explorer has a habit of not finding non-Windows devices in your network until it’s told to do so. So typing \\Nucleus\ in the address bar of File Explorer will kick Windows into displaying it again. In this situation, mapping a Windows drive to a folder in the Nucleus will pin it permanently in File Explorer as a drive on your PC.
I tried entering \Splayer and get an error that Windows cannot access it (error code 0x80004005). It does see the player as I can access it web interface no problem and the splayer’s minidlna is visible under Media Devices. It’s just that something is blocking Windows 11 from accessing the drives/files.
I have an old laptop with Windows 10, and typing in \Splayer works fine to access the drives/files. I compared the settings for network discovery/sharing and they are the same on both computers.
This is bad if I cannot use my new computer to access my streamer to add/remove/edit music on my streamer.
Is everyone running Windows 11 having this issue? I can’t imagine that is so…
This is being caused by the tighter security than Microsoft has done for Windows 11. You need to follow the instructions given in the link posted by @BlackJack above. You said: “I took a look at the above link, but don’t understand how to do any of that on my Salkstream”. The instructions are carried out on your Windows 11 PC, not on your Salkstream.
I appreciate your response. Typing the IP address into the header of File Explorer gets me to the Nucleus+ server but it still does not show up in File Explorer.

Glad to hear that you were able to connect via IP address. Yes, in this case, you will need to use \\Nucleusplus\ as the address, instead of just Nucleus.
@Saturn94 - You will need to use the instructions @BlackJack linked. If you are still having issues after, please open a separate support thread or reach out to Salkstream support.
I finally got around to having the time follow a number of Roon community suggestions to try to get Windows11 File Explorer to once again recognize my Nucleus+ server. As suggested, after I typed "\Nucleus" in the address bar for Windows 11 File Explorer, my Nucleus+ server was again found & recognized. I wish to thank the Roon community for their helpful suggestions.
