WiiM Prime Day Deals (Oct 10-11) for US Amazon Prime customers 20% off WiiM products
Just grabbed one of the Wiim Pro on sale. Figured I’d grad the regular and not the plus since I am using an external DAC and didn’t want to wait around for it to get certified Roon Ready…eventually.
Not showing up in the UK yet, but my basket has a Pro Plus sitting in it ready.
Edit: WIIM Pro plus now on sale for £175 so a bargain
(Hopefully RR soon enough)
Not showing up on sale for me
Says tomorrow.
It was on What HiFi about an hour or two ago.
The one in my basket was still showing at £220
I will look at my checkout now and send you the link if if I can find it
Edit : looks like I got lucky as it has gone back up now so maybe it was released too early
Are there any updates on when Wiim Pro Plus is getting Roon Ready/RAAT?
There are never updates from the Roon side until the work is complete.
That would be my ideal streamer. Roon Ready, DSD, Spotify + Tidal Connect with support for surround sound formats like Dolby Digital, Dolby True HD, Dolby Atmos, DTS, DTS 96/24, DTS HD Master Audio, DTS X, connected to my pre-amplifier using a HDMI interface.
I think it’s baffling it doesn’t exist today at an affordable price point, if it exists at all.
Licensing costs for all those adds massively to costs so not ever going to be hugely affordable and with 99% of audio playback not even touching proprietary codecs such as DD and DTS why bother investing such into RnD for a userbase thats very very small. . Most of what you want can be achieved with a humble PC and AV amp for not much money.
A cheap 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player (or Universal Disc Player, if you will) has it all (except Roon Ready).
Currently I’m using a Mini PC (Ubuntu) with Roon Bridge because no other options exists, but then you’re missing out on Dolby Atmos and most other surround sound formats.
My gut tells me that WiiM will release such a product next year very similar to the WiiM Pro, adding HDMI Out and maybe even USB Out (and I’m estimating a price of ~$350 USD). The closest today at a ‘cheaper’ price point is the Eversolo DMP-A6 that someone on this forum mentioned that I have sitting in my Amazon saved-for-later cart (~$860 USD). WiiM doesn’t need to add a screen or anything else really to the existing Pro unit outside of these additional 1 or 2 outputs, which is how I came up with this WiiMazing price
I hope WiiM will release such a product. Fingers crossed!
WiiM Pro Plus (not yet ‘Roon Ready’ though) is back on sale for Black Friday: $175.20 (including remote) at Amazon
Pro Plus Roon Ready now… (well, listed as such now in any case. No clue about firmware updates)
Based on the rate of release in will hopefully be out within two weeks. There was a new release 2 day’s ago but there’s no mention of Roon Ready in the release notes.
this weekend update roll out
Rather quick compared to some other manufacturers. I guess the fact that Harman is part of the core team that established Linkplay is purely a coincidence
Wiim Amp up next?
This is absolutely brilliant news! A RR streaming endpoint with both analogue and digital outputs, all for £150?
WiiM Pro AirPlay 2 Receiver, Chromecast Audio, WiFi Multiroom Streamer, Compatible with Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant, Stream Hi-Res Audio from Spotify, Amazon Music, Tidal and More https://amzn.eu/d/6et1ztA
At last, Roon moves into the mainstream. For too long Roon has been a niche product. It always will be IMO, but falling prices of endpoints will help it gain traction in the marketplace.
I think the subscription price for Roon is reasonable, and the falling price of RR endpoints will allow Roon to increase subscribers, maintain a healthy profit margin from existing/new subscribers and hopefully fuel growth. It also needs to ‘kill’ lifetime ASAP. A lifetime sub purchase is completely ‘underselling’ the value of Roon. Pricing should focus on long-term returns, rather than on ‘cheap meat’ once the subscriber number has reached a critical mass.
All we need from Roon now, is a cheaper/more accessible Nucleus for the masses? Any chance Danny? @danny
And the subscription price could also be more for the masses?
Yes, of course.
Is $15 p/m a reasonable figure? Of course! What’s this equivalent to? A Starbucks every week?
The mount of work that Danny @danny and his team have put into Roon over the last few years belies belief. It’s cheap at double the price
